LaMelo Ball scores 21 in Timberwolves opener after missed travel call

The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Miami Heat 131-106 on Wednesday, a contest marked by a controversial non-call on LaMelo Ball during his official debut for Minnesota. The 25-year-old guard finished with 21 points and six assists, though three of those points resulted from a play that appeared to be a travel violation. Just over three minutes into the first quarter, Ball used a screen to get his defender off balance and moved beyond the three-point line without dribbling. Broadcast announcers noted that Ball took approximately four full steps without touching the floor with the ball. The officials did not blow the whistle on the infraction. Following the successful three-point shot, Ball engaged in trash talk with fans at courtside. The Timberwolves' victory was led by Anthony Edwards, who recorded 45 points and 10 rebounds. Edwards made nine three-point shots during the game. The combined scoring of Edwards and Ball reached 66 points. The pair committed a total of five turnovers during the contest. Giannis Antetokounmpo represented the Heat in the loss.
