Kyle Larson secured victory in the Yellawood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway by a margin of 0.041 seconds over William Byron and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. The race concluded with Larson taking the checkered flag after an overtime period that followed a significant multi-car incident on the final lap.

The decisive crash occurred with six laps remaining while David Gilliland led the pack. Joey Logano, who had Carson Hocevar on his bumper and Ross Chastain ahead of him, became loose and spun into the wall. Logano’s vehicle flipped onto its roof, and he rode upside down across the finish line before coming to a stop. In the same sequence of events, Riley Herbst struck the outside retaining wall, lost braking ability, and veered left into the inside barrier beyond the apron at full speed. Herbst’s car bounced off the wall before stopping completely.

NASCAR stated that both Logano and Herbst were transported to the infield care center for evaluations and were subsequently released. The race resumed minutes after the wreck, leading to an overtime finish. Larson held the lead entering overtime but fell off the pace on the backstretch before regaining control to win the race.

The result altered the championship standings for the NASCAR Cup Series. Larson entered the race as the defending champion, leading Christopher Bell by five points. Bell crashed early in the event, which affected his position in the standings. Logano entered the race in sixth place in points, while Herbst was not in contention for the title. With two races remaining on the schedule, Larson’s win narrowed his gap to Bell, keeping both drivers in the championship chase.
