Eagles release quarterback Andy Dalton after one interception in Bears loss

The Philadelphia Eagles released quarterback Andy Dalton on Friday, ending his tenure with the team after a single interception during a Week 3 loss to the Chicago Bears. The move occurred before the Eagles departed for London to play the Jacksonville Jaguars. Dalton, 38, entered the game against the Bears after starter Jalen Hurts left with an injury. At the time, the Eagles trailed 7-0 in the second quarter and faced third-and-goal from the Bears' 2-yard line. Dalton snapped from the shotgun and threw a pass that was intercepted by rookie safety Dillon Thieneman. Following the play, the Eagles promoted Tanner McKee to backup quarterback, moving Dalton to the third string. The release formally removed the three-time Pro Bowler from the roster. Dalton is the sixth team he has played for in his NFL career. He spent his first nine years as a starter with the Cincinnati Bengals. Since leaving Cincinnati, he has served as a backup for the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, and Carolina Panthers. Dalton started games for every team he joined except the Eagles. His career record stands at 84 wins, 83 losses, and 2 ties across 169 starts in 180 games. He has completed 62.6% of his passes for 39,793 yards, 254 touchdowns, and 152 interceptions. The Eagles currently hold a 2-2 record. They will face the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are 3-1, in London at 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday.
