Bose's Audio Tech division sells the company's core signal-processing and noise-cancellation software to third-party hardware companies. Named partners include Motorola, which uses the technology in earbuds and phones; Xreal, for extended-reality glasses; and Sena, for a motorcycle helmet communications device. Skullcandy headphones and Epson projectors also carry Bose technology, the company said.
The "Sound by Bose" or "Powered by Bose" brand mark is optional and priced separately. A product can ship with Bose technology and no logo. The reverse is not permitted, Snyder said: the logo never appears without the underlying tech. The structure mirrors the model Bose has run in automotive audio for more than 40 years, now extended to mobile, compute, and XR categories.
The shift changed how engineers build the core technology. Bose now develops shared algorithms and what Snyder called "AI units" on common platforms instead of building purpose-built code for single product lines. She said the approach has widened invention across Bose's three technology priorities: noise cancellation, immersive audio, and the ability to isolate sounds a user wants to hear. Development cycles have also gotten faster, she said.
McIntosh and Sonus faber: a separate luxury unit
Bose placed both acquisitions inside a standalone luxury business unit and said neither brand will move down-market. Both product lines are handmade. Sonus faber speakers are crafted in Italy from natural materials; McIntosh products are built one at a time, according to Snyder.
Separate engineering teams preserve each brand's sound signature. Bose connectivity and software features are being added to luxury products over time. The company recently released the McIntosh MA2375, a new integrated amplifier with vacuum tubes that Snyder described as an object worth displaying.
AI wearables and the business case for licensing
Snyder said demand for audio processing is rising as more devices rely on voice input. That includes AI wearables, a category that may compete with headphones directly. Bose sells its own headphones and soundbars and also puts the same underlying technology inside Skullcandy headphones, Epson projectors, and Xreal's XR glasses.
