Atari is retiring the software store for the VCS retro console on February 1, 2027. This ends support for the platform. The decision was announced in a post to the Atari Club Discord channel and subsequently reported by Tom's Hardware.

The VCS was a Linux-based mini PC powered by AMD hardware. Its design loosely resembled the original Atari 2600, but it lacked a physical cartridge slot. The device shipped with pre-loaded classic Atari games. Users could expand the library through the online store.

The console's development history spanned a decade. It included multiple delays and name changes. During that period, Atari provided assurances to backers of a crowdfunding campaign that the project would proceed despite earlier uncertainties. The closure of the software store marks the final step in the retirement of the VCS platform.
