Peter Oberacker, a New York state senator endorsed by President Donald Trump, won the Republican primary Tuesday in New York's 19th Congressional District, setting up a November contest that could help determine whether Republicans preserve their narrow House majority.
Oberacker will challenge Democratic incumbent Rep. Josh Riley in the general election on Nov.
A Narrow Majority on the Line New York's 19th District, which covers a stretch of territory north of Manhattan, sits among a handful of competitive seats Republicans are targeting to hold the House.
The party currently controls the chamber by a slim margin, making each swing-district race consequential for the legislative calendar heading into next year. Republicans last carried NY-19 in 2022.
