US and European Stock Indices Close Friday Session
NEW YORK, Oct. 9. The Dow Jones 30 Industrials closed at 51654.95 on Friday, a gain of 423.31 points, according to AP data recorded at 5:30:00 PM. The index reached an intraday high of 51765.11 and a low of 51258.95.

The S&P 500 finished at 7811.54, up 46.18 points. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 27193.34, gaining 172.83 points, with a high of 27395.401 and a low of 27256.144.
Sector indices showed mixed results. The Dow Jones 15 Utilities index closed at 1055.96, up 8.09 points. The Dow Jones 20 Transportation index fell 4.93 points to close at 19804.14.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) declined by 51.295 points to finish at 12623.715.
European markets posted gains in the same session. The FT-100 in London closed at 10441.6, up 120.43 points. The MIB in Milan rose 471.62 points to end at 49297.88. The SMI in Zurich gained 150.4 points, closing at 13637.
