Philadelphia sports teams record winless October across three major leagues
Philadelphia professional sports teams have failed to secure a single victory in October, marking a historic slump for the city's major league franchises. The Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Phillies, and Philadelphia Flyers have all suffered losses or failed to win during the month, creating a unique negative streak for the region. The Philadelphia Eagles dropped to a 2-3 record after losing two close games in the span of one week. The team surrendered a 20-10 fourth-quarter lead against the Los Angeles Rams, losing 24-20. They then traveled to London to face the Jacksonville Jaguars, where they blew a lead in the final minute. With eight seconds remaining, Jaguars kicker Cam Little converted a 57-yard field goal to secure the victory for Jacksonville. The Eagles' win probability against the Rams was listed at 96.7% by the NFL, and against the Jaguars it was 99.9% after a field goal by Jake Elliott, according to ESPN. These losses dropped the team below .500 for the first time since 2021. The Philadelphia Phillies were eliminated by the Atlanta Braves in the National League Wild Card Series to start the month. This marks the fourth consecutive postseason exit for the team since their 2022 World Series appearance. They lost in the National League Championship Series in 2023 and the National League Division Series in both 2024 and 2025. The core roster includes Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, J.T. Realmuto, Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Jesus Luzardo, and Cristopher Sanchez, all of whom are under long-term contracts extending through at least 2027. MLB.com ranked the Phillies' farm system 26th in baseball. The Philadelphia Flyers began their National Hockey League season with a record of 0-5-2. The team has scored eight goals while allowing 28 in seven games, resulting in a minus-20 goal differential. LeBron James is set to make his debut with the Philadelphia 76ers next Tuesday against the New York Knicks. The 76ers are currently without a win in October as well.
