Margin expansion drives revenue gains

Net interest income on a tax-equivalent basis rose to $8.0 million in the second quarter of 2026 from $7.4 million in the year-ago period. The net interest margin expanded 15 basis points to 3.33%, compared to 3.18% in the second quarter of 2025 and 3.28% in the first quarter of 2026. The company attributed the improvement to higher yields on earning assets, a more favorable asset mix, and lower deposit funding costs relative to the prior year.

Average loans grew to $582.3 million in the quarter from $559.8 million a year earlier. Total assets reached $1.1 billion at June 30, 2026, up from $1.0 billion at both March 31, 2026 and June 30, 2025.

Credit quality holds; loss contingency clouds expenses

Nonperforming assets stood at $0.1 million, or 0.01% of total assets, at June 30, 2026, down from $0.3 million, or 0.03%, a year prior. The company recorded a negative provision for credit losses of $248 thousand in the quarter, compared to a charge of $113 thousand in the second quarter of 2025. The allowance for credit losses was $6.6 million, or 1.14% of total loans, at June 30, 2026.

Noninterest expense rose to $6.1 million from $5.7 million in the second quarter of 2025. A $0.4 million loss contingency accrual recorded in other noninterest expense drove most of that increase. The company said it has notified its insurance carrier and is evaluating potential coverage; no recovery has been recognized in the results.

Balance sheet and capital

Total deposits were $988.3 million at June 30, 2026, compared to $931.1 million at March 31, 2026. The linked-quarter increase reflected a rise in reciprocal deposits retained on balance sheet, which reached $82.3 million at quarter-end versus $19.9 million three months earlier.

Stockholders' equity was $93.9 million, or $26.91 per share, at June 30, 2026. The company paid a cash dividend of $0.27 per share during the quarter.
