Atlanta Dream face arena conflict for WNBA Finals Game 6

The WNBA has confirmed the date for Game 6 of the Finals but faces an unresolved venue conflict at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries are tied 2-2 in the best-of-seven series following Golden State's 67-62 victory on Saturday. Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 29, but the Atlanta Hawks are already booked to host the Cleveland Cavaliers at the same venue at 7 p.m. that evening, one hour before the Dream and Valkyries are set to tip off. The league is currently seeking a resolution to host the championship game without overlapping with the NBA matchup. The Dream typically play home games at Gateway Center Arena in College Park, which seats 3,500 fans. However, the team moved its home playoff games to State Farm Arena, which holds approximately 17,000 spectators, to accommodate the sellout crowds drawn during the Finals. Previous scheduling adjustments have been required to avoid conflicts, including moving Game 3 from Thursday, Oct. 22, to Wednesday, Oct. 21, to avoid a concert, and shifting Game 4 to an earlier afternoon tipoff to accommodate the Hawks' home opener against the Houston Rockets. According to The Athletic, one potential solution involves moving the Hawks-Cavaliers game to Friday, though this would create back-to-back games for both NBA teams and place the rescheduled matchup on the opening night of NBA Cup group play. Another option is returning the Dream to their smaller regular-season home, which would limit attendance for a championship game. CBS Sports reports that other Atlanta-area venues, such as Georgia Tech's McCamish Pavilion and the Georgia State Convocation Center, could also be considered. Dream star Angel Reese stated after Saturday's loss that she prefers to remain at State Farm Arena, citing the fan support received there. The Dream have announced plans to move into State Farm Arena full-time beginning with the 2027 season. Game 5 is scheduled for Monday night in San Francisco.
