Apple Raises Mac Prices on Memory Chip Costs; Pre-Hike Inventory at Major Retailers Selling at Up to $800 Off New MSRP
Apple raised prices across its Mac and iPad lineup, citing rising memory chip costs, in a move that landed during Amazon Prime Day. Inventory at Amazon, Best Buy, and Costco is still tagged at pre-hike levels — producing gaps of $110 to $800 below Apple's revised retail figures — and none of the three chains has announced a timeline for resetting their pricing.

Retail Stock Has Not Yet Caught Up to Apple's New Price Sheet
The sharpest visible gap is in the MacBook Air. Apple's 13-inch M5 model, which previously started at $1,099, is on sale at $949 at Amazon, Best Buy, and Costco; Apple's updated price for that machine is $1,299, leaving a $350 spread. The 15-inch M5 Air is $1,149 at all three retailers against a new MSRP of $1,499 — the same $350 gap.
At the entry level, the MacBook Neo — Apple's most affordable laptop — is $589.99 in its base 256GB configuration at Amazon and Costco, versus a new base price of $699, a $110 difference. The 512GB Neo with Touch ID is $689.99 at both retailers, $110 below its revised $799 MSRP.
MacBook Pro: Larger Discounts as Specs Rise
The base 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M5 chip, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage is $1,549 at Best Buy and $1,599 at Amazon, against a new MSRP of $1,999.
Higher-end configurations carry wider spreads. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M5 Pro chip, 24GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage is $2,034 at Amazon — $465 below the new $2,499 retail price. The 16-inch M5 Pro version is $2,494 at Amazon, $505 off the new $2,999 tag. The 14-inch M5 Max model with 36GB of RAM and 2TB of storage is $3,299.99 at Amazon, $800 below Apple's revised $4,099 MSRP. The 16-inch M5 Max version is $3,649 at Amazon, $750 off the new $4,399 price.
iMac Caught in the Same Transition
Apple's M4 iMac is straddling old and new pricing. The base 8-core M4 model with 16GB of memory and 256GB of storage is $1,149 at Amazon, Best Buy, and Costco — $350 below the new $1,499 starting price, which Apple raised from $1,299. The 10-core M4 iMac with four Thunderbolt 4 ports is $1,349 at Best Buy and Costco, $350 off its new price.
No retailer has announced a deadline for aligning Mac pricing to Apple's new structure. There is no guarantee current sale prices will hold once those adjustments roll through.
