Alphabet Inc. reported Google Cloud revenue of $24.8 billion for the recently completed quarter, representing an 82% increase from the same period last year. The segment generated an operating margin of nearly 36%, reflecting strong enterprise demand for artificial intelligence capabilities. This growth has driven the company's contracted backlog to $514 billion, with multi-year commitments from both government and commercial customers.

The cloud division now accounts for approximately 20.7% of Alphabet's total revenue in the second quarter of fiscal 2026, up from 14.1% a year earlier. On a trailing-twelve-month basis, the company's total revenue reached $445.87 billion. Consolidated revenue for the second quarter of fiscal 2026 stood at $119.8 billion, marking a 24.2% year-over-year jump. Alphabet generated $173.16 billion in EBITDA over the trailing twelve months, maintaining a 34.03% operating margin.

The stock price closed at $352.72 on October 12. Shares have gained 44% over the past 52 weeks, outpacing the S&P 500's 17.4% increase during the same period. The company's market capitalization stands at $4.12 trillion. While the stock rose 12.69% in 2026, the majority of the rally occurred in the final quarter of calendar 2025, with momentum slowing this year.

Alphabet's balance sheet shows a debt-to-equity ratio of 18.9%. The company holds $120.8 billion in debt against approximately $242.5 billion in financial assets, providing a cushion despite some exposure to market fluctuations through equity investments. Valuation metrics include a trailing price-to-earnings multiple of 17.62x and a forward multiple of 22.83x. Analysts note that trailing profits benefited from non-recurring investment gains, while forward multiples reflect expectations for continued earnings growth.

Institutional interest remains high, with 275 hedge funds holding positions by the end of Q2 2026, up from 265 in Q1 2026, according to Insider Monkey data tracking over 1,000 funds. BlackRock is the largest institutional stakeholder, holding 460.97 million shares as of June 30, which represents 7.86% of outstanding shares. Vanguard Capital Management and FMR hold stakes of 6.53% and 4.27%, respectively.

Investors are focused on whether the current valuation aligns with future projections given the significant capital expenditure on AI infrastructure. The wide gap between operating cash flow and free cash flow highlights the scale of these investments. While the risk-reward profile is considered cautiously favorable if cloud growth continues to justify spending, some analysts argue that other AI stocks may offer greater upside with less downside risk.
