Bose Adds Tech-Licensing Arm and Two Luxury Brands After 60 Years as Single-Brand Maker

After 60 years as a single-brand audio company, Bose has reorganized into a three-brand group and added a technology-licensing division that sells its noise-cancellation and audio-processing software to outside manufacturers, Chief Executive Lila Snyder said in an interview.

The company acquired McIntosh Labs, a 75-year-old audiophile brand, and Sonus faber, an Italian speaker maker with more than 40 years in the market, to fill out the higher end.

Audio Tech: licensing the platform to outside makers Bose's Audio Tech division sells the company's core signal-processing and noise-cancellation software to third-party hardware companies.

Named partners include Motorola, which uses the technology in earbuds and phones; Xreal, for extended-reality glasses; and Sena, for a motorcycle helmet communications device.
