Missouri high school referee suspended for grabbing player

The Missouri State High School Activities Association suspended a high school football referee less than 24 hours after he physically grabbed a player during a game.

The incident occurred during Week 8 of the season, involving Joelle Rover, a receiver for the Glendale Falcons in Springfield, Missouri. The referee made contact with Rover following a 43-yard touchdown catch and score.

The suspension was issued rapidly, with the association not waiting long to investigate or ask questions before acting on the video evidence of the play.

Glendale coach Frank Tristan expressed frustration with the incident, telling the Springfield News-Leader that the situation tarnished the entire game.
