House Democrats erupted in alarm Wednesday after Rep.
Diana DeGette of Colorado became the latest longtime incumbent to fall to a democratic socialist primary challenger, extending a streak of upsets that is reshaping the caucus's left flank.
Melat Kiros, a 29-year-old attorney and PhD student, led DeGette by nearly 10 percentage points as of Wednesday morning in the Denver-based district.
The loss landed harder than most because DeGette was no centrist — and her colleagues know it.
